Matthew 26:31 KJV
Then saith Jesus unto them, "All ye shall be offended because of
me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and
the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad."
Sometimes the modern geniuses read "offended" as "stumble," which is very wrong,
and at other times they see it as "fall away," also very wrong. Here it is
in the NASV:
Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of Me this night,
for it is written, I WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP OF THE FLOCK SHALL BE SCATTERED."
"Fall away" is a very strong, very terminal, and very final expression. In Hebrews 6, we read that anyone who falls away cannot be brought to repentance again. So, according to modern Bible translators, all of the disciples of Jesus are forever lost!
